I moved to Japan 8 years ago and my first job enrolled me in the pension system (nenkin). I quit that job after 16 months and moved to another prefecture. I started a job at an ALT dispatch company that doesn't have any kind of pension thing.
I didn't realize I was paying pension before, so i didn't continue paying for it. I don't think i received any letters or anything about it.
I was digging through some old files and found a letter from the Japanese Pension Services (I think it's form over 5 years ago or so).
So my question is, how screwed am I? Is there any way I can rejoin the pension system without having to backpay like 6.5 years?
