Would rather not gaijin smash….

I bank with SMBC. My sponsor helped set the account up with me.

I speak tourist level Japanese. I recently got a settlement from a family members estate, and the check was sent here. I want to deposit it here, but the two times I've gone to the bank and asked for an English speaking teller, they told me that nobody speaks English there.

My sponsor (vice principal) could come, but I want to keep the circumstances of the money private–nothing shady but it was a very nasty probate hearing with documentation I assume I have to show.

Should I either bring a dictionary and a few hours, or just politely insist on English? Something else I could do?
