Smoking FOOD in Japan

Tried searching the sub but everything I found was related to cigarettes.

Japan doesn't have the kind of culture where I can have a BBQ grill and smoker on my apartment balcony. As far as I can tell, I can only get away with grilling/smoking at home if I have a detached house with some kind of yard or roof terrace. (And even then, probably not if I'm a renter.)

Does anyone here smoke food at home? Where do you do it? What kit do you have? Did you import something or could you find decent stuff here? Let's talk smokers 😀

I miss making bacon from scratch 🙁
